How to scrap your car in Lewisham
If you've got a scrap car in or near Lewisham it's easy to have it scrapped for free.
- Phone us to arrange a time for the collection of your scrap car and to provide us with as much information on the car as possible.
- We take the logbook and tow away the vehicle at the time you have arranged. If you like you can send us the logbook before hand. (Even if you don't have the logbook for the vehicle we will still be able to tow away the scrap car but you will need to let us know before we take the vehicle and you will need to write to the DVLA, informing them of your intention to scrap the car.)
- You get section 9 of the logbook back, together with an intent of destruction certificate.
- You should then send section 9 to the DVLA.
- We mail the remainder of the logbook to the DVLA, make a SORN (let them know that the car is off the road) and tell them that the vehicle can now be de-registered.
- You should receive notification from the DVLA within about 4 to 6 weeks.
What happens to your scrap car?
Once we've taken your scrap car we first remove the tyres and the battery and any other parts that could be reused. Then we separate out all the parts that can be recycled (the catalytic converter for example). Any hazardous parts are also removed from your scrap car and properly disposed of and any fuel remaining in the fuel tank is also removed. It is only then that the vehicle can be crushed.
